Right now I am listening to C.T Fletcher’s IRON ADDICT vol 1. Warning!! This man curses a lot. Bro, when I mean A LOT, I mean a lot!!! haha but what I love about CT is that he is a no nonsense type of guy. No excuses when you are working out with him!

On to the tech post.

Today I have the myth the legend, Sam from the Blind Spot.  LINK TO THE CHANNE.

He has a great youtube channel which you should subscribe to because; he has some pretty impressive reviews for the low vision and blind community. Sam is also legally blind so, hearing his reviews on products and services made for the low vision and blind community is sound. For me, makes Sam a credible source for products and services for the blind and low vision community.

I am at Starbucks now, and I am listening to a cool station on Spotify called “Chill Indie Covers.” It is a great station to listen too because it is easy listening and the station has a lot of covers of my favorite songs. GUEST POST: SAM FROM THE BLIND SPOT WITH IRISVISION

Here is another great tech review from SAM from the Blind Spot.  Sam has a great youtube channel with great Tech reviews. He makes all his videos in-house and demos some pretty cool gadgets for the low vision and blind community.

Check out his review on the IRISVISION goggles.  These goggles require a Samsung 7 phone to operate the device.  The phone will serve as a binocular and magnifier to help you read print close up and far away.    Sam does a much better job than I do explaining the product, therefore, it is why I like his videos.  Check him out and please subscribe to his channel.

I AM NOT A SCRUB

Living in the United States, there has always been a lot of emphasis on having your car. It serves as independence, freedom, the ability to go anywhere without asking someone’s permission. Some would even be so bold to say that it is darn right American to have your own car.

For a man living in the United States, it almost seems that having a car symbolizes a status to the rest of society that you are an able and capable man who is independent. Even though you may not be a provider having a vehicle gives an artificial sense to value to society. What type of value are they providing? It depends on the person you are asking,

For example, If a woman goes on a coffee date with two men. She finds out that one of the men does not own a car. She doesn’t know the why, but she knows enough information to consider another date with that gentleman. There is a higher chance she will say no to the second date without knowing the why; because to her, the man with a car provides more values. All because he owns a car. Now, I am not saying she likes the other guy with the car better; what I am saying is that the car guy has more value than the no car guy.

Do you remember the famous song from TLC back in 1999 called “Scrubs.” Scrubs describes a man who is not worth their time because they do not possess certain material items that women can benefit from. One of those materials is not having your own car. I will admit, the song was pretty catchy, but it did put me in a weird spot with women at the time.

By no means was I a Scrub, but I couldn’t help that my vision is below safety standards for operating a vehicle. According to the U.S Government and the rest of the medical world, I am considered visually impaired or legally blind. As a result. It bars me from operating a vehicle. Does it affect my self-esteem? Of course, it does! Would having a car make my life a whole lot easier? Absosulty!

But I cannot waste time on the what if’s. So, I have no choice to construct a highway to the path of success and freedom. The bright side is that I can work hard enough that I can hire someone to drive and fly me around the world 😉

VALUE YOUR TIME

Question, do you value your time?

LOW VISION
DO YOU VALUE YOUR TIME

Have you ever set up a meeting with someone who asked for you time? If you have, then most likely you set up a time and date for this personal encounter. So, you are at the meeting place, and the person is late, or the person sends you a text and tells you that something came up. Now, the question is, How do you feel about this person wasting your time?

To be honest with you, I really hate that feeling. I feel unappreciated, undervalued and unimportant. Then the thought kicks in. “Am I too available to some of these people?”

As a fitness/boxing trainER at the local gyms in Charlotte, NC. I have to be careful not to give too much time away to clients or potential clients. The reality is, this is how I make a living. I trade my time for your dollars, I am trading my experience for dollars, and lastly, you are giving me money for my ten plus years as a trainer. Am I mean person that my sole purpose is to collect money? hmmmmmm, Yes!! I have bills to pay too!! lol

One of my coaches in Charlotte is one of the best boxing coaches in the area. Every time, I see him; I always see people crowded around him. From afar, you would think that they are just talking about the day, (sometimes they do) but when you get closer, you can hear them asking for advice. They are asking for all sorts of boxing questions and advice. All my coach does is cross his arms and give you a verbal sample of the product; because he knows that his time is valuable and fighters travel from different states and cities to work with him. Granted, now and then he will give you some tips here and there, but just enough to enquire about his rates.

LINK-IT’S OKAY TO TELL PEOPLE NO

The point is, you need to start valuing your time and most importantly, you need to start valuing yourself. I am not yet a master at this but believe me when I say it; I am trying. I have two things working against me.

One, I am a giving person by nature. It has hurt me financially and emotionally when people take advantage of me.

Second, I would undervalue myself and think, “why would someone want to pay me?” This is an image problem and a self-esteem problem that I work EVERYDAY to overcome.

Once I have accepted the fact that….

1) My time is precious and limited
2) I have years of experience that people would pay for
3) I respect myself too much that I will not allow someone to take advantage of me.

Things got a lot easier and I was a lot more confident in telling people that I would love to work with them. (At a cost of course…lol). Some people will be offended, but at least they stop taking time away from me that will prevents me from making money.

The point to this blog, is not to charging people for every time you have a conversation with someone, but to value your time more and do not let people take advantage of you.

BOOK FOR MINDSET-The Secrets of the millionaire mind.

Now, keep in mind, that people will always try to squeeze time and information out of you. Take that as a compliment because people are starting to see you as an authority in that field. Just keep your make sure you set the tone up front that you trade your time for dollars because they will always expect it from you.

I would love to know your thoughts! Please leave your comments bellow!

IT IS OKAY TO TELL PEOPLE, NO!

Hey everyone, Low Vision Guy here!!

Hope you guys are doing well and enjoying your week!

I wanted to take the time and write a quick blog post.  The topic for today’s post is, it is okay for you to tell people NO!

I bring this up because way back in the day, I was a super people pleaser.  I could not say “No” to someone who asked something of me.  “Hey DeMarco, are you free for this?  Can you come into work on this day?  Do you want to join in this Herbal Life seminar I am doing…lol”.  The fact is, people want our time and our resources; and the bigger problem is that you do not have the guts to tell them No!

So what do you do when people are asking for your time, but you only have so much time to give?   Well, I can tell you the worst thing you can do is tell someone, “Let me think about.”  Let me get back to you about that.  Let me think about it.  Yeah, of course that sounds great, let me call you with more details.”  The fact is, all those statements above are mostly made for the person who

The fact is, all those statements above are mostly made from the person who doesn’t have the confidence to say “NO THANK YOU.”  The other unpopular fact about using those statements, is that when you say them, you are setting yourself up for failure with that person.  You know that you do not want to do it or be there…lol. SO why say YES in the first place?!

Just tell the person…

That sounds like a great thing that you are doing, however, I don’t think it will be a great fit for me.

That sounds pretty cool, however, I am currently working on a project right now and do not have time for anything else at the moment.

(My favorite.). I appreciate you thinking of me for this, but I am just not interested in doing that right now.  Thank you anyway.

The point is, tell them no, let them know that you have other things planed.   If not, they will keep bothering you and you could ruin the relationship.  I rather tell you “No” now then avoiding you later on..lol

Later guys!

Productivity Planner

Hello, everyone. Hope all of you are doing well and enjoying the holidays with you friends and family. This post is part one of the two journals that I use on a daily basis.

To start off this two-part series, I will write about the PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER, which is a planner that is made and sold by the same company as the FIVE MINUTE JOURNAL, Intelligent Change. If you are looking for something to replace your five legal pads you have all over the house, then this will be a great substitute. In fact, it could be better than your legal pads. Let me explain…

If you are looking for something to replace your five legal pads you have all over the house, then this will be a great substitute. In fact, it could be better than your legal pads. Let me explain…

I have read a lot of books on self-development and personal growth. I have noticed a topic that those authors like to touch on quite frequently, which is having a well organized to do list. Haveing an organized to-do list can make the difference on how productive your day can be. So, let’s not delay and get right into it.

picture of the cover.

PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER
PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER

I currently have a leather black journal that I keep with me at all times.   I write all my notes, to do list and even my monthly budgets. I will be honest; it is not the most organized book, but it gets the job done.

PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER is not journal, but a well-organized planner that can serve two purposes.  First, it a to do list planner and second; it will help me maximize my time more efficiently.
BEGINING OF THE WEEK

PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER
BEGINING OF THE WEEK

Before you begin the week, you need to establish the necessary goals that you need to do by the end of the week.  The PLANNER will start off the week with a single page that separates your tasks from VERY IMPORTANT to LEAST IMPORTANT.

The first category is to list the most important tasks that you NEED to get done for that week. The point of this category is to understand that these are the most pressing and important tasks that you must complete. Why? Because of more than likely, these are the things that are keeping you up at night or giving you anxiety. Therefore, you should do these tasks first.

The second category is the tasks that are important, but not as pressing as the first. The idea is, you should not touch this section until you complete the to-do list in the first category. (“This will make more sense when I show you the actual days.”)

Lastly, the third category is the bonus round. Once you have completed the most urgent tasks, then you can move on to things that are not pressing, but still important for you. It can be things like, practice your handwriting, call that friend you haven’t seen or talked for a while.

Once you have your weekly goals ready to go, it is time to begin!!

“TIP.”

I make sure to write down my to-do list the night before so, which I will not forget what I need to get done the next day. If not, I know that I will toss and turn all night thinking about the things that I need to get done. Having them written down gives me a sense of comfort that I will not forget what it is I need to get done.

Picture of the first day.

PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER
DAY TO DAY
PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER

Just like the FIVE MINUTE JOURNAL, the first thing you see is an inspiring quote. If you did your homework the night before, then there is no need to remember what you need to get done, because you already jotted that down last night. Start wit the most important task first and then move down as you complete them. Here comes the secret to this book and what really helped me get things done. The Pomodoro Method.

The Pomodoro Method is working on a task or project for 25 minutes increments., This is where I found to be the most helpful because I never really had good study habits. I used to think that the only way to really get things done, is to work for extended periods of time and do not stop until it is complete. Ever since I started this method, I have gotten more things done than I ever had before.

Picture of the Bubbles.

PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER
THE POMODORO METHOD
PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER

If you notice, that there are bubbles near your tasks. Each bubble represents each Pomodoro session it will take to get your task done. What I like about this method, is that before you start the task, you can write down how many Pomodoro sessions it will take for you to complete your task.

Say, for example; you need to create a logo for your company, and you may think it will take you two hour to complete it. Then you write down “4.” ( Each Pomodoro session is 25 minutes.)

What I have pleasantly found is that I usually finished before the time I give myself. I then look back at it, and then I say to myself, “Wow, that wasn’t so terrible: it didn’t take that long!” So, I am approaching my tasks more positively now, because I get them done a lot sooner than I expect.

Before you head to bed. Open up your PLANNER again and answer one last question.

“How productive were you today?”

You can grade yourself on a scale of 1 to 10. Don’t sweat it; I was given myself 5’s until I got the hang of it.

THE WEEKLY REVIEW.

PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER
WEEKLY REVIEW

Once you have completed your five days, then comes some reflection of how your week went. The reflection is the part that will show how you have been spending your time throughout the week.

The book will ask you the following:

Your weekly wins
The tasks that you did not complete
The things you learned from that week.
Lastly, what actions can you take to ensure more success with your to- do list.

I really like this part because it forces me to take stock of how I am using my time and resources. Like, do I take a two-hour nap or do I meditate for ten minutes? Do I wake up early and work on my goals, or do I sleep until I have to go to work? Where are the hours and the minutes of my day going?

UPDATE ON THE PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER

I have been using this PLANNER for almost three months now, and I really love it. When I open my book and look at what I need to do, I feel prepared and ready! I feel more confident than before when I would write down the things that were giving me anxiety and just work on them in any order and in any way possible.

I do not see the PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER as a gift but as necessity!!! Why? We need something to keep us in line and keep our goals visible to us at all times. We have distractions everywhere we go so; naturally, we will get off track now and then.

You can buy yours here, and when you get it, please let me know you like your planner!! Because I would love to see how this planner has helped you with your goals.
