This is my very first post for the Technology and the Low Vision/Bind post (LV & Blind news.). With these posts, I want to educate my community that there are amazing technologies and services looking to serve our community. So, I will do my best to comb the internet fo the latest and greatest. DeMarco, AKA: THE LOW VISION GUY
For my first tech blog, I would like to introduce my readers tot he world of AIRA: VISUAL INTERPRETER FOR THE BLIND.
This is a service that uses the Google Glass technology. The Google Glass has been around for maybe 3 to 4 years max. So far, the glasses are pretty cool to use, but the market hasn’t really seen a major need for them -yet.
The founders of the Aira decided to use them for the low vision and blind community to help them become more independent. How so? Well, the glasses are paired up to your phone while the consumer is wearing the glasses. While the customer has their phone and Google glasses paired, they also have access to trained Aira agents on the line willing and able to help with almost any task that you need. From what I understand, they are your eyes for whatever you need. From looking at the website, the main focus is to bring back the independence to the low vision and blind community.
If you go to Aira’s main page, they have a short clip of how the product works. As a consumer, I can see how it might be a little scary at first, however, Aira has trained their staff to help you with commuting across the city via public transportation, do grocery shopping and even finding a friend at a public restaurant.
So cool in fact that they teamed up with the American federation of the Blind in bringing more awareness to our community and educating us on how it works. You can read more about it here.
In the meantime, If you want more information on how to use their services. Link below
If you have a passion for helping people and you think this is something you would like to do, then Aira is hiring for part-time agents. Link below
